DAIAL BARA, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Israeli strike has killed at least 62 people across Gaza on Saturday from one night, health workers said, as it is said to have improved prospects for a ceasefire.
The three children and their parents were killed in an Israeli strike at a tent camp in Mwasi near Khan Yunis in Minami City. They were struck while asleep, relatives said.
“What did these kids do to them? What’s their fault?” said Abu Teima, the children’s grandmother, as the others kissed their bloody faces and knelt down crying. Some of them put red flowers in their body bags.
Also, according to staff at Shifa Hospital, 12 people protected the displaced people near the Palestinian Stadium in Gaza, and eight more were in their apartments. More than 20 bodies were taken to Nasser Hospital, health officials said.
The midday strike killed 11 people on a street in the eastern part of Gaza city, and their bodies were taken to Al Ali Hospital. The strike at a gathering at the entrance to the Breage refugee camp in central Gaza killed two people, according to Al Auda Hospital.
I’m hoping for a ceasefire contract next week
US President Donald Trump said there could be a ceasefire contract next week. Asked a question from a reporter on Friday, he said, “We’re working on Gaza and we’re trying to take care of it.”
A knowledgeable source told The Associated Press that Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dahmer will arrive in Washington next week to discuss Gaza’s ceasefire, Iran and other subjects. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not permitted to speak to the media.
Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas have been turned off once again since Israel broke its latest ceasefire in March, continuing its military campaign in Gaza and promoting a territorial tough humanitarian crisis. Approximately 50 hostages remain in Gaza, less than half believed to be still alive. They were among the 251 hostages filmed on October 7, 2023 when Hamas attacked Israel and caused a 21-month war.
More than 6,000 people have died since the latest ceasefire ended
The war killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, according to the Ministry of Health, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. It is said that more than half of the deaths were women and children. He said the deaths include 6,089 people killed since the end of the latest ceasefire.
Israel says it targets only extremists and condemns the deaths of Hamas civilians. They accuse extremists of hiding among civilians as they are active in the population.
There is hope among hostage families that Trump is involved in securing the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is riding a wave of public support for Iran’s war and its outcomes. He could feel that he had more space to end the war in Gaza, where his far-right governing partners opposed.
Hamas has repeatedly said that he is ready to release all the hostages in exchange for the end of the war in Gaza. Netanyahu says the war will only be ended once Hamas is disarmed and exiled.
Hundreds were killed while seeking food
Meanwhile, hungry Palestinians endure the devastating situation in Gaza. After blocking all food for two and a half months, Israel has only allowed trickle supply to the territory since mid-May.
More than 500 Palestinians have been killed, and hundreds more have been injured while seeking food, as the newly formed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began distributing aid on the territory about a month ago.
Palestinian witnesses say Israeli forces fired fire at a crowd on the road heading towards the site. Israeli forces say they have only fired warning shots and are investigating the incident in which civilians were harmed while approaching the site.
Thousands of Palestinians walk for hours to reach the site and travel through Israeli military zones.
Separate efforts by the UN to distribute limited food have been plagued by armed gangs plundering trucks and crowds of hopeless people loading supplies from their convoys.
