The 63-year-old man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Santa Ana, leaving the man who died on the road, police said Monday.
The fatal collision occurred in the Harbor Boulevard and Hazard Avenue areas just before 5:30am on Sunday.
Officers arrived in response to the call for a traffic collision and arrived to find an unresponsive man identified as David Westman, 46, of Santa Ana, lying in the southbound traffic lane of Harbour Boulevard. Paramedics with the Orange County Fire Department arrived and declared Westman had died on the scene.
Preliminary investigations detail Westman walking west in the traffic lanes of Harbor Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle moving south. The suspect’s car driver fled the scene before police arrived.
“The Santa Ana Police Department’s Clash Investigation Unit (CIU) has responded to an investigation into the incident,” SAPD said in the release.
After unreleased time following the lead, the detective pursued the suspect and his vehicle in Orange City.
“With the help of a patrol officer, the driver of Tustin’s 63-year-old Miguel Ocampo has been arrested and booked at Santa Ana Prison for a felony hit and run,” SAPD continues. “The CIU continues to investigate this incident.”
