According to Cal Fire, the wolf fire that began Sunday afternoon continued to burn on Riverside, reaching 35% containment on Tuesday morning.
Evacuation orders and warnings remain due to the 2,414 acre fire south of the prohibition. Firefighters continued to aggressively attack fires from the air and from the ground, Cal Fire said.
“Sudden, rough terrain, high temperatures and winds remain difficult factors for firefighters,” Cal Fire Incident Commander said late Monday.
The fire began on Sunday just after 3pm with an old ban ban banning Idyllwild Road and Wolfskill track trails. Approximately 925 staff members were assigned to the brush fire, including 103 engines, 10 dozers and 16 water bids.
Evacuation orders have been issued in areas south of Interstate 10, and evacuation warnings have expanded in areas adjacent to the Interstate.
An evacuation shelter was established at Hemet High School, 41701 Stetson Ave., and the animal shelter is located at 581 S. Grand Ave, San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, Riverside County Animal Services Division.
At least three firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No damaged structures have been reported as of Tuesday morning.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
