Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass opposed the ongoing immigration raid on Tuesday after the announcement of a federal lawsuit attack on policies in LA’s sanctuary cities.
In addition to numerous attacks and detention, federal officials also provoked protesters, exaggerated the scale of the violence, unnecessarily deployed troops to LA and blamed local leaders on obstacles, Bass said.
“It’s essentially a full attack on Los Angeles,” Bass said.
US Attorney Bill Essayri, who announced the federal lawsuit, said the legal action “holds that the City of Los Angeles is responsible for deliberately obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws.”
Attorney General Pam Bondy also made the allegation in a complaint.
“The Sanctuary policy was the driving force behind the violence, confusion and attacks against law enforcement that Americans recently witnessed in Los Angeles,” she said. “Jurisdictions like Los Angeles, which disregard federal law by prioritizing illegal foreigners over American citizens, undermine law enforcement at all levels — that ends under President Trump.”
Instead, Bus characterized the federal lawsuit as an attempt to undermine local governments. Despite these efforts, she said, “We’ll stand strong.”
“We do that because it’s our colleagues, our neighbors, our family, and they’re Angeleno, who are people snatching down city streets and chasing the car park,” she said.
The federal crackdown in Los Angeles was a “test case” for similar behavior in other American cities, and while Bass continued, she and other local leaders are not threatened by “the unfair and cruel behavior of this administration.”
“LA will stand strong and we’ll stand together,” she said. “We are a city of diversity, labor, business, faith, community, creativity and success. We are a proud American city, and we unite.”
