Los Angeles and several surrounding cities will cancel their July 4th celebrations in response to an increase in activity by federal immigration officials in the area.
The Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Bureau have postponed the summer film and concert series.
One of the July 4th events, a Gloria Morina Grand Park Summer Block Party of thousands of people in 2024, was postponed indefinitely due to “continuous circumstances affecting the region.”
Other communities surrounding Los Angeles reportedly have decided to cancel the July 4 event in light of ongoing federal immigration enforcement in the area, including Bell Gardens, Boyle Heights, Kadahi, Huntington Park, Whittier and El Sereno towns.

At Huntington Park, cancellations exceed the July 4th holiday only, including a 30-day suspension for “specific public summer events,” according to a statement released by the city.
According to a statement from Huntington Park, “reports of unmarked vehicles and unidentified federal agents have created widespread anxiety, especially among immigrants and mixed-status families.” “Many residents express fear and uncertainty, leading them to stay indoors, refrain from work and withdraw from their daily public life. Our priorities are to remain safe and peaceful in our communities.”

Officials from these communities, which will halt Independence Day events, have been led by the Trump administration’s decision to strengthen federal immigration enforcement.

Huntington Park Mayor Arturo Flores described the rise in ice attacks in and around Los Angeles as “a domestic terror campaign” and “a psychological warfare that I only saw in theatres of war,” according to the Guardian.
Meanwhile, the deputy mayor of Cudahy is said to have called on gang leaders in the now-deleted Tiktok Post to protect their territory from the ice.

The arrests were “one of the reasons why there were so many,” according to documents obtained by the outlet since June 6, “several federal agencies have arrested about 2,000 immigrants in the Los Angeles area,” according to documents obtained by the outlet.
This week, the Pentagon released an army of 150 California State Guard members from the Federal Security Mission in Los Angeles to help fight wildfires.
