The man and his sister, who worked as lead electronics engineers at the FBI’s Los Angeles Field office, plead guilty to rigging bids for electronics to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in government contracts.
Jeffrey Spencer, 51, of Canyon Country and Christie Verklian, 43, of Temecula, faced charges of conspiracy to fraud the United States and filed a judiciary agreement on Wednesday, agreeing to a felony violation, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
Between 2015 and 2020, Spencer, who was looking for a bid for electronics, worked with her sister Evereklyan. [were] “Independent competitive bids from several companies for her,” DOJ said.
But the brothers had already decided which companies to file the minimum bid, officials added.
“Evereklian used the names of relatives to submit bids from their company to the FBI to hide the bid company’s controls, and used a random number generator to create fraudulent bids,” the DOJ said.
The scheme has won at least $350,000 siblings on the contract, officials said, and they face up to five years in federal prison when they were sentenced.
