Fifteen Inglewood High School band members fly to Washington, DC to perform at the Annual Independence Day Parade.
Young musicians represent not only schools and cities, but the entire state. Inglewood High School is the only high school band from California that has been chosen to participate in national events.
Drum major Rebecca Ahmada, who helps choreograph the band’s performance before boarding the plane, shared this meaning for the school.
“I was awake from 2:30 in the morning, I couldn’t sleep. I was very excited. I think there’s a good chance that the band will join more people.
According to district officials, the trip was fully made possible through fundraising. Students were not paid out of pocket.
The band members also led fundraisers throughout the school year while they practiced for performances. They had the opportunity to perform for Snoop Dogg and the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a massive donation.
All of this outstanding payment trip was made possible by large donors such as the Inglewood Educational Foundation, Greater LA Educational Foundation, Los Angeles Rams and even Snoop Dogg.
County administrator Dr. James Morris was also at LAX, cheering students before the big day. Morris shared why the event is more than just a parade performance for students.
“It was truly a partnership to make this possible for the young people in our community.
It is a life-changing experience for them. ” he said.
For some students, this trip marks the first of many of their lives.
“They didn’t have the opportunity like this. For many of them, this was their first time on a plane and their first time going out of California. The excitement they showed this morning was just heartwarming.”
