A severe fire at a Northern California fireworks facility that caused a massive explosion Tuesday evening and injured two people, went into criminal investigation Wednesday.
Cal Fire Arson and the bomb unit responded to the scene Wednesday morning to investigate possible foul plays. The two injured people were expected to survive, firefighters said.
Seven remained unissued at the end of Wednesday, with first responders and investigators working diligently with property owners to determine where those individuals were located, Cal Fire said.

Missing family and friends spent time on the site hoping for answers on Wednesday.
“Our minds and thoughts have impacted the people we lost, their families and everyone in our community,” the warehouse owner said in a statement. “We appreciate the prompt response of law enforcement and paramedics. Our focus will remain on those affected by this tragedy and will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities in their investigation.”
Authorities have begun evacuations in the Esparto, California community, in the area of 23 counties and County Road 86A where the building is located.
European County firefighters received a call about the explosion around 6pm Tuesday, and the first responders at the scene discovered several buildings and numerous explosions and spot fires.
The explosion poses a danger to the firefighters, and the firefighters had to return to defensive mode and burn the flames. One of the explosions was very powerful and caused some damage to nearby houses. The homeowner says the explosion blew his French doors away, leaving behind plaster scattered across the floor.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office told KCRA in Sacramento that it was monitoring the fire and explosion, and the state fire ex-sent sent an arson and bomb investigation team to the scene.
