A test drive in Victorville resulted in the injury and potential criminal charges of a mother who allowed the 12-year-old to move the car.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at Gate Rancho Seneca Apartment near the 15th highway around 3:40pm on Wednesday.
Authorities discovered a mother they chose not to name, allowing the 12-year-old to try to move the family vehicle into the complex’s parking lot.
The mother stood close and looked, and the tween pointed the car towards the scene, holding the toddler in her arms. During the parking process, the vehicle door was slammed at by the mother and fell to the ground and dropped the infant.
The infant suffered head injuries, officials said, and flew nearly 45 miles south to Loma Linda University Medical Center for care. No information was provided regarding the severity of the baby’s injuries or whether the mother was also injured in the incident.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies did not answer calls seeking more information.
The Sheriff’s Office called the case “atrocity against a child” but did not confirm whether the case was forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office due to the possibility of a charge.
The District Attorney’s Office did not respond to calls or emails due to comments.
