On the weekend of July 4th, beach lovers are ready to hit the coast. However, authorities have warned visitors to avoid beach activities that involve getting wet on the eight beaches.
County officials said the warning was issued ahead of the holiday weekend.
The Los Angeles County Public Health Department issued a statement Wednesday warning residents to avoid surfing, swimming and other saltwater activities.
“Swimming in the water with bacteria can make you sick or cause skin infections,” the department said in the disaster. “Children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems are at a higher risk of illness and infection.”
The department was unable to estimate when the warning would be lifted, but state law requires testing weekly in waters.
The following beaches were affected:
– Avalon Beach, Catalina Island: Step Beach Swim Area 50 feet west of Green Pleasure Pier and east of Casino Arch.
Santa Monica Beach: Santa Monica North Lifeguard Tower 12 and 100 yards up and down the coast from the Storm Drainage on Wilshire Boulevard.
– Ramirez Creek, Paradise Cove, Malibu: 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.
– Beach, Rogers: 100 yards up and down the coast from the Bel Air Bay Club border fence.
– Mother Beach at Marina del Rey: The entire swimming area.
– Topanga Beach: 100 yards up and down the coast from Castle Rock Storm Drain.
Santa Monica Beach: 100 yards up and down the coast from Santa Monica Pier.
– Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro: The entire swimming area.
The health department will issue updates when it becomes available.
