According to the Southern California Auto Club, around 5.5 million Southern Californians are projected to hit the road for vacation.

Drivers are expected to travel at least 50 miles from their home during the holiday period that runs from Saturday, June 28th to Sunday, July 6th.

Nationally, 61.6 million Americans are expected to travel by car, with 5.84 million people expected to travel by plane on a round trip of an average of $810.

“Following the record-breaking anniversary forecast, Auto Club is seeing continued strong demand for both road trips and air travel during the July 4 holiday,” said Yenna Miller, vice president of travel products and services at Auto Club. “With the holidays falling this Friday, many travelers are planning to extend their weekend and weekly holidays to spend quality time with family and friends. ”

What is the best time to leave?

The AAA says the roads are expected to see an additional 1.3 million tourists across the county compared to last year.

This weekend, drivers may experience the most traffic on Sundays. Many travelers return home from weekends or a week’s holiday.

Drivers should leave in the morning to avoid the worst traffic. Construction, crash falls and harsh weather can extend travel time.

What is your busiest route?

The AAA predicts that the busiest holiday routes are likely to be on 15 highways.

On Saturday, drivers from Palm Springs to San Diego should expect the most traffic at 3pm

On Sunday, traffic will be heaviest for drivers returning from Las Vegas to Los Angeles around 5pm

What is your number one destination?

According to the Art Club, most Southern Californians are expected to travel to places they are driving.

Top spots include San Diego, the Central Coast, Las Vegas and National Parks.

Nationally, most travelers travel for beaches, cruises and fireworks. According to the AAA, the most popular sites are Orlando, Florida, Seattle, Washington, New York, New York, Anchorage and AK.

How much will the driver be paid with the pump?

Drivers are about 20-40 cents less per gallon, so the gas prices in Southern California are the lowest at this time of year since 2021, AAA said.

Statewide prices rose about 2 cents on Tuesday as part of an annual inflation adjustment to fund statewide road repairs.

According to the AAA, drivers could see prices rise as domestic and international events escalate. Weather can also be a factor, as storms can affect oil refineries and fuel supply.

Demand for rental cars

Hertz Care Rental said the busiest day of picking up a car rental will be Thursday, July 3rd.

According to Hertz, the vehicles that the driver is trying to rent are SUVs and medium-sized sedans.

Holiday traffic enforcement

The California Highway Patrol will begin its statewide holiday enforcement period from July 3rd to July 6th, the agency announced Wednesday.

According to the CHP, officers will be “at all their might” to support safe driving on holiday weekends and to support safe driving on holiday weekends.

Last year, the agency made more than 1,300 DUI arrests and issued more than 17,700 speeding citations during the maximum enforcement period.
