The European County Coroner confirmed the presence of human remains on Friday in a rural location in a fireworks fire and explosion near Sacramento earlier this week.
Although no positive identification was made, coroner officials were on Yolo County property and were expected to continue their recovery efforts throughout the weekend, county officials said in a news release Friday.
The coroner’s office has contacted the families of people reported missing and will continue to update them as information becomes available, officials said.
The victim’s identity will not be released until a positive identification has been made and the family member has been notified.
The fires and explosions on Tuesday night caused a barrage of fireworks, leading to other spot fires, knocking down the buildings in a rural community in Esparto about 40 miles northwest of Sacramento.
Two people were injured and received medical care, Esparto Fire Chief Curtis Lawrence said at a press conference Wednesday.
Offices of the European County officials, the Esparto Fire District, California Fire Department and the former state fire department continued to investigate the cause of the fire.
