One of Los Angeles’ most iconic beachfront restaurants reopened Friday six months after the devastating Palisade fire swept through coastal communities.
Since 1981, Gladstones, a staple food on the Pacific Coast Highway in the Pacific Palisard, has repaired the damage caused by the Palisade fire and welcomed patrons in time for the July 4th holiday.
For longtime customers like Jeanie Crawford, the restaurant couldn’t reopen on a better day.
“I chose to come, so I was able to hug everyone and take it in,” Crawford sipped a margarita, feeling like a huge loss, saying he couldn’t visit her famous restaurant for six months. “It’s very congratulatory and very meaningful.”
The operator said the beachfront deck, including the lounge area, is open for customers while the restaurant building is still under construction.
“The goal was to resume as soon as possible because we missed everyone and we love everyone here,” said Jennette Timko of Gladstones. “Everyone who comes in is a family. We know everyone by name, and anyone we don’t know, we welcome them with open arms.”
After the Palisades fire that claimed 12 lives and destroyed more than 5,400 homes, the community raised nearly $30,000 to support staff who suddenly lost their jobs.
The restaurant said it is offering a 50% discount to all Malibu and Pacific Pallisard residents and first responders in July.
Another well-known seafood restaurant along PCH, Duke’s Malibu is set to open a barefoot bar in late July, the restaurant announced on social media on Tuesday. The exact date of return is unknown.
