The new report reveals that his SAT score is below the median score for students enrolled in school after democratic socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani was reported to have been identified as “Asian” and “Black/African American” in his application to Columbia University.
Independent journalist Christopher Luffo reported on Monday that he scored 2,140 out of 2,400 in the SAT, which was below the median score of students admitted to the university in 2009, according to Mamdani’s full Colombian application.
A 2009 statement by the university said that students enrolled in the 2013 class scored between 2110 and 2300 in the SAT, placing the mum ticks within range and below the median.
Mamdani said he identifies him as an “American born in Africa,” and stated that checking multiple boxes is an effort to reflect his “complex background” and that he cannot benefit from a competitive admissions process.

A New York Times report on Thursday found that in 2009, NYC mayor’s hopeful Zohran Mamdani was identified as Black/African American for the application to the prestigious Columbia University.
But at the time, Columbia, like many elite universities, used race-conscious admissions, a system that the Supreme Court abolished in 2023.
Mamdani, a Democratic candidate for mayor in New York City, was identified as “black or African American” in a 2009 Columbia University application.
According to the Times, the internal data comes from a leak database of past Columbia applications, which was part of a recent hack targeting Ivy League schools.
Mamdani, a senior at the time in high school, also checked out “Asians” and reportedly wrote about it in “Ugandan” for additional background. He was ultimately unacceptable to Colombia, despite his father being a professor at an elite school.

“Though these boxes are constrained,” Mamdani said.
Mamdani said in his time that he did not recall identifying him as black or African-American, apart from the forms of these universities.

His parents are both Indian. His father, Professor Mahmoud Mamdani of Colombia, has lived in East Africa for generations, but Mamdani said that his native African group and family had no marriages.
Mamdani leaned into South Asian and Muslim identities on the campaign trail. In his June speech on Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, he also highlighted his African roots. “I was born in Kampala, Uganda… I was given my middle name, Kwame, by my father, who I named after Ghana’s first prime minister.”

In line with his democratic socialist vision, Mamdani proposed a list of policy changes that would make New York City more fundamental. He is running to discharge New York mayor Eric Adams, who was elected Democrat but is now running for re-election as an independent.
Former New York Democrat Mayor Andrew Cuomo is also running for mayor as an independent.
Fox News Digital contacted Mamdani and Columbia University for comments but did not receive a response prior to publication.
