California Governor Newsom Visit South Carolina – NBC Los Angeles

California Gov. Gavin Newsom began his two-day tour of South Carolina on Tuesday, meeting rural voters and several GOP hubs.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Newsom plans to create a total of eight stops across the state. This is a trip state Democrat officials say it includes coffee shops, small businesses and churches.

First, a coffee shop in Florence, Newsom shook hands with almost all of the approximately 100 participants.

“I think it’s really important for Democrats to spend time in a part of our country, which is part of our state. Frankly, we haven’t spent enough time, so I’m here.”

Newsom spoke in Los Angeles on Monday at an event six months after the fatal Pallisard and Eton fires. Earlier that morning, federal agents gathered at the city’s vast MacArthur Park, west of downtown LA. There, the video showed agents armed with tactical gear walking in line across the football field.

Approximately 100 federal immigration enforcement agents have accumulated near MacArthur Park in the West Lake area of Los Angeles. It has been six months since the Eton and Palisades fire began. The video aired during NBC4 News on Monday, July 7th, 2025 at 3pm.

Details about why the agents, including border patrol officers, were in the park were not available immediately, but the activity came after a few weeks of immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles. The Department of Homeland Security told NBCLA it had not commented on the ongoing execution projects.

Newsom called the Federation a “stigma.”

“On the six-month anniversary of LA Wildfis, Donald Trump decided to send troops on horseback to round people on the football field, rather than delivering what LA actually needs. He’s an emergency aid that continues the game.

His investment in the nation, pivotal in choosing his party’s presidential candidates, and the trajectory of some of the trajectories in some of its red regions, suggests that the term-limited governor has taken away his liberal image of San Francisco, is ahead of his belief that he is a crowded field of 2028, and ensures he is engaged in a democratic election that has long been engaged to the party.

Starting in northeastern South Carolina on Tuesday, Newsom heads towards the conservative upstate among the state’s most GOP-rich regions on Wednesday. He kicks off that day at an event in the small town of Seneca. In last year’s general election, President Donald Trump won more than 75% of the votes voted in surrounding Oconey County.

Stepping on that territory matches the image Newsom has cultivated for himself ahead of the potential White House bid in 2028.

While he is increasingly willing to infiltrate from his brand and several policies that defined his deep democratic nation, Newsom has surprised members of his own party by hosting Trump’s allies on his podcast and agreeing to podcast guests on issues such as restricting transgender women and girls in sports. Newsom also remained silent when longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon mistakenly said that dismantling the police station was “madness” and that Trump won the 2020 presidential election against Democrat Joe Biden.

The 2028 Democrats’ primary calendar has not been set for months, but potential candidates for the party’s upcoming presidential slate have already begun visiting South Carolina in the hopes that the state will continue to play a vital role.

In the promotion of Biden, where the 2020 candidate was saved by his overwhelming South Carolina major victory, the state, with the exception of the Democratic 2024 calendar, said party chair Christile Spain will update the debate to maintain the state’s number one spot in the next cycle. South Carolina has long been the first Southern state to hold its primary, and its important influence on diverse voters, especially black voters, has given it a unique role in the Democratic nomination process.

In May, a pair of Minnesota Tim Waltz and Maryland Wes Moore caught up with the weekend of an event hosted by the South Carolina Democrats, introduced themselves and tested candidate discussions in front of the party.

Both men also spoke to the noisy politically challenging attendees who have been attending by Rep. Jim Clyburn’s world-famous fish fried senator, the famous nights of cold drinks, hot fried fish and many years of Democratic presidential hopeful scores.

Jonathan Lloyd of NBCLA contributed to this report.
