The death of a US Army veteran whose body was found by his daughter in a homeless camp in Los Angeles was a coincidence and controlled for drug use, the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday.
Lucrecia Macias Barajas, 46, succumbed to the effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to Dr. Jamie Nakagiri, Deputy Medical Examiner, LA County.
Barajas, along with 39-year-old Pojoysaki, died on May 12 in a tarp-covered shelter in Westlake’s cul-de-dead. Sajqui also died of the same cause, but it is unclear what the relationship between both individuals is.
The shelter was already the scene of death and injuries earlier this year when authorities found the body in a burning car in the camp. A second individual, a 38-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital.
One of Barajas’ three daughters followed her cell phone on May 12th, which led her to the camp.
Videos from the time showed the same daughter crying on the ground and later begging officers of the Los Angeles Police Department to remove her mother.
According to the medical inspector’s office, Barajas and Saji were found to not respond in the tent, and their deaths were pronounced at 7:30pm that day at 7:30pm that day.
The assistant inspector completed the trial on May 14th and said Barajas had posthumous injuries due to animal activity.
In May, LAPD characterized the death as suspected drug overdose. Officers told The Times, which has not investigated the issue as a murder, despite the family asking for further investigation.
Family representatives were not available immediately.
