Ten people have been arrested, charged with attempted murder of a federal officer and in connection with a violent and brave Independence Day attack on an immigration customs enforcement detention center that left local police officers injured in the shooting, the Justice Department announced this week.
According to a news release from the DOJ, the “organized attack” on July 4th unfolded at the Prairiland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas at 10:30pm. value.
Authorities said all the accused in black military style clothing were equipped with body armor, two-way radio and firearms, including AR-style rifles recovered at the scene.
About ten minutes after gathering outside the facility, two individuals peeled away from the main group, tagging several vehicles with graffiti and guard structures, plastering the word “traitor” and “ice pig” federal and personal property.
This is said to have occurred because other members of the group shot fireworks at the facility itself.

“Officer Alvarado responded to the scene after corrections officers called 911 and reported suspicious activity,” federal prosecutors said. “When Alvarado police officers arrived, one of the accused allegedly shot in the neck by a defendant located in nearby Woods. Another attacker across the street fired 20-30 rounds at the unarmed corrections officer who had left the facility.”
It is completely unclear how long the fireworks and firefight barrage lasted, but authorities said all 10 defendants had fled the basis of the detention facility and were later captured by additional law enforcement backup, including one suspect identified as Bradford Morris in criminal charges during a traffic stop.
Morris admitted to being involved in a potentially fatal trial, met some of the other suspects online, and gave them several rides to “make noises” from Dallas, NBC News reported.

“One of the suspicious attackers had a phone inside a “faraday bag,” commonly used by criminals to block phone signals and prevent law enforcement from tracking their location,” the release said.
Other items found in the group included spray paint and phrases containing phrases such as “the fear of fighting class wars” and “liberate all political prisoners,” as well as “a flag that resists the Olihead of fascism and fighting.”
“Don’t make a mistake, this was not a peaceful protest,” said our deputy Nancy E. Larson. “This was an ambush of federal and local law enforcement officers.”
The officer shot in the neck was treated in the hospital and later released. No other officers or staff at the Prairiland Detention Center were injured during the exchange, according to NBC News.
Each of the suspects was charged with three attempted murders of a federal agent and three counts of discharge of firearms in connection with a violent crime.
If convicted, individuals face a 10-year minimum sentence and a maximum life sentence in federal prison.
