The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against California, claiming that three state laws are the reasons behind the rise in egg prices in Golden State.
“California has contributed to a historic rise in egg prices by imposing unnecessary deficits on egg production through a combination of voter initiatives, legislation and regulations.
The lawsuit targets three state laws, AB 1437, Proposal 2, and Proposal 12.
Proposal 2 2, which measures the statewide voting bill passed in 2008, produces welfare commissions for livestock such as egg-selling chickens, and AB 1437 regulates egg quality for human consumption. The administration argues that the law works together to reduce egg production and increase prices.
The lawsuit also calls Proposal 12, passed by voters in 2018.
The administration also argues that regulating egg production falls within the territory of the federal government, citing the federal law of 1970.
There was no mention of avian flu. The outbreak of illnesses increased prices nationwide earlier this year.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Press Office enjoyed the suit in X’s post. President Donald Trump insisted that he “returned to his favorite hobby: literally blaming California for everything.”
“Next time: @Cagovernor Gavin Newsom sent the asteroid that caused the collapse of Rome and wiped out dinosaurs,” the post continued.
