Six months after the Eton Fire, more than 50 dogs rescued from the flames are still searching for homes, according to Pasadena Humanity.
During the wildfires in January, Pasadena Humanity accepted around 1,100 animals, including 567 people who had been boarded temporarily while their families were searching for stable housing.
“The lucky thing we were able to do here was to say, ‘I’ll take your animals to us,'” said Kevin McManus, director of public relations and communications.
These dogs still need a home. He said because there is no place to take them to the shelter, or because the family hasn’t reached for them.
Thankfully, many families were able to retrieve their pets as soon as they came, he said, but some are still waiting.
“It’s particularly heartbreaking from a community perspective. Many of our neighbors don’t have a place to allow our friends to bring their pets yet,” McManus said.
Pets have attracted love and attention from humane volunteers in Pasadena, but he said it’s not the same as having a home yet. The organization’s next goal is to help all pets find their beloved owner.

Supported by the Pet Care Foundation, Pasadena Humane was exempt from adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats from July 9th to July 20th.
