Two of the leading Capitol Hill critics of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, Alex Padilla and Corey Booker introduced this week a law requiring immigration enforcement officials to clearly identify without masks and split the senators.
A Republican from Capitol Hill rejected the Democratic bill and told Fox News Digital that immigration agents should be allowed to hide their identity and wear masks to protect personal safety.
“I think you should be allowed to wear masks because not only are ice agents threatened, but also because families and children are threatened, because when you have such a threat to your family, you need to do your job and enforce the law.”
U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs Border Protection (CBP) officers usually wear face coverings to protect their identities for illegal immigrant raids and arrests.

Last month, Padilla, handcuffed for disrupting Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem’s press conference, and Booker, a consistent Trump critic, proposed visible identification standards for the 2025 immigration-based law enforcement (visible) law.

Federal immigration law enforcement officials have been targeted since last Friday when Trump signed his “big, beautiful bill” “including laws for robust immigration reform.” There were at least two ambushings in Texas, and protesters clashed with federal officers at an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon.
Anti-ice rhetoric escalated in June, filling with protests that rioted last month when federal officials descended on Los Angeles and raided to deport illegal immigrants.
“When there are others who want violent attacks on ice agents, why don’t ice agents wear masks? And it’s not just ice agents. It’s his family. You can chase them home and attack his family,” Senator Bill Cassidy said when asked about the new law.
“It’s not naive,” he added. “This is an attempt to threaten ice agents. It’s nothing more than that.”

But the Democrats have a different view.
“That’s what you see in fascist countries,” D-ore said. Sen. Jeff Markley, of the company, told Fox News Digital about the Masked agent. “We are not a fascist nation. We are ‘our people’ and we need to make sure that people are responsible. ”
D-Ariz. Senator Mark Kelly said, “They should be clearly identified. What are their agents? Who are they?”
The Booker and Padilla bill requires that all federal agents clearly display the agency’s name or initials, name or badge number.
“I think masks and clear identification of ice agents will promote safety,” Sen. Tim Kane (D-Va.”

Senator Mazie Hirono of D-Hawaii agreed. “Law enforcement should identify themselves,” she said.
Trump placed emphasis on the new law this week, telling Fox News that “Booker and Padilla wouldn’t propose the bill “if they didn’t hate our country.”
“These officers do an incredible job,” he continued. “They are great patriots.”

But Booker said, “I love America and I love keeping Americans safe. That’s why I introduced visible behavior requiring ice agents to wear identifiable badges and perform unmasked duties. The fact that policies centered around transparency and accountability are effective in creating communities and law enforcement is safer.”
