The suspect shot dead and injured a state trooper on Sunday and fled to a Kentucky church.
The shooting ended when the suspect was killed, Kentucky State Police said on social media.
After shooting the trooper, the suspect ended up at Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, state police said. Police did not provide any additional information regarding the suspect’s death.
The trooper was shot dead at 11:36 a.m. in Fayette County, where Lexington is located, state police said. The suspect escaped and ended up at Baptist church, police said.
The church shootings have resulted in multiple injuries, Kentucky Gov. Andy Besher said in a social media post. The troopers and others were being treated at a nearby hospital, but other details were still emerging, the governor said. The extent of the injury was not immediately known.
“Pray for everyone affected by these meaningless acts of violence and we would like to thank the prompt response by the Lexington Police Department and the Kentucky State Police,” Besher said.
