Community members are opposed to the arrest of a CSU Channel Islands professor during a protest following an immigrant raid on a Camarillo farm.

Members of the California Faculty Association held a vigil in front of a detention center in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, demanding the release of Jonathan Carvavello.

“We don’t know how he’ll be released. The CFA is devastated by it,” said Nichelle Henderson of California State University Fresno.

Vigil organizers say Caravello is a US citizen and has worked for more than five years at the CSU Channel Islands.

We are seeking the release of our colleagues, a California civil servant who is a beloved professor of California State University students,” said Alejandra Malchevsky, a professor at California State University.

NBC4 has obtained criminal charges against Caravero, including surveillance photos identified by the Department of Homeland Security as Caravero.

The complaint alleges that Caravello threw a tear gas canister at the Border Patrol agent. Court documents allegedly Calabello left the area, changed clothes and returned before he was arrested by Border Patrol agents.

According to US lawyer Bill Essayli, Caravelo is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Organizers for Sunday’s vigil say they will continue to solidarity following the Southern California immigration raid.

“This is a time of solidarity. It’s time for us all to come together, regardless of your culture, ethnicity, background, whether you’re part of a trade union or not,” Henderson said.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said more than 300 people were arrested Thursday in two immigration enforcement projects on farms in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

DHS secretary Kristi Noem announced on Saturday that federal agents had arrested 319 people during an operation at Glasshouse Farm near Camarillo and Carpinteria.

“I have just been given an update on Thursday’s operations at a marijuana facility in California. @DHSGOV law enforcement rescued 14 children from potential forced labor, exploitation and human trafficking. They arrested 319 illegal aliens. Office,” Noem wrote.

The DHS said law enforcement activities are part of an investigation into immigration and potential child labour violations.

During a standoff that lasted for hours near Camarillo, agents clashed with protesters on a road surrounded by the community’s vast farms northwest of Los Angeles. According to DHS, four people were arrested on suspicion of attack or resisting.

The video showed several white vans and at least one US former s service bus on-site, as well as those found in other immigration enforcement businesses in Southern California. Details about where the detained individual was filmed were not available immediately.
