Several businesses in South Los Angeles were plundered Monday morning in a series of robberies police believe were connected to nearby street takeovers.
The acquisition was reported on Gage and Compton Street just before 4am, according to Lt. Col. Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 70 vehicles reportedly were involved, but Martinez said they fled by the time deputies arrived.
While the agents were preparing for the acquisition, they received a call saying that several young people had broken into a nearby business.
From El Super, minors took goods, most of them drank and destroyed their businesses. They also took the goods and damaged nearby Walgreens.
The store was damaged but nothing was taken from the pizza loca.
It is unclear if anything was taken from a nail salon in the area, but the store was also damaged.
Martinez said all the young people fled before deputies arrived.
Similar acquisitions and robberies took place in Long Beach early Monday morning.
Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
