Sesame Workshop, the production company behind “Sesame Street,” said it was working to regain “control” Elmo’s X account after hackers visited the page Monday morning to post anti-Semitic messages and comments about sex trafficking investigations on President Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.
“Elmo’s X account was compromised by unknown hackers who posted nasty messages, including anti-Semitic and racist posts,” a spokesman for the Sesame Workshop wrote in a statement shared with Nexstar. “We are working to regain full control of our account.”
According to the Associated Press, the message was displayed on Elmo’s X account over the weekend. ScreenGrabs, shared on social media, appears to indicate that the post contained anti-Semitic and racist remarks, as well as vulgar comments about President Trump.
Posts no longer appear on your official ELMO accounts as of Monday morning.
Efforts to regain control of Elmo’s hacked accounts come just a few days after Xai, an artificial intelligence company for Elon Musk, apologized to the Grok Ai chatbot, which issued an anti-Semitic statement on X.
These posts have been removed from X, and Xai has announced an apology.
“First, I would like to deeply apologize for the horrifying behavior that many people have experienced,” the company wrote in X-Post. “Our intention at @Grok is to provide a useful and true response to our users. After careful investigation, we discovered that the underlying cause was an update of the code path upstream of the @Grok bot.
