The political earthquake that shook the Democrats when Zohran Mamdani won the New York City primary last month fell to Washington, D.C., hosting a “communications and organizational skills-sharing breakfast” on Wednesday morning.

Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive champion and the youngest woman to be elected to Congress, was an early supporter of Mamdani, a 33-year-old so-called democratic socialist who has yet to land key support from New York’s Democratic leaders.

Representatives from the Bronx and Queens campaigned with New York City’s Mamdani ahead of last month’s major victory, with “Squad” members welcoming Mamdani to the country’s capital on Wednesday.

According to a flyer obtained by the Washington Post, Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani are holding breakfast at the National Democratic Club at 8am Wednesday. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) shares the same address as breakfast on Wednesday, but the DNC did not organize the event.

Ocasio-Cortez confirmed the breakfast meeting on Tuesday, telling reporters he is eager to meet him “face-to-face” and defends issues such as rent freezes, affordable childcare and grocery prices, while telling reporters that he “hears what he has to say about making New York affordable for workers.”

Mamdani’s main victory reveals the Democratic disparity when top leaders withhold their support

“I think a lot of people just need to know people before they can support them. I hope this conversation is constructive and brings together the parties and gets together behind the candidates,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Mamdani has yet to secure support from House Minority Leader Rep. Hakem Jeffries and Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader.

“I’m excited to go to Washington, D.C. to talk to party leaders around the country to speak to Senator Schumer,” Mamdani said Tuesday.

However, while Mamdani is eager to meet with Jeffries and Schumer of Washington, no such meetings have been reported.

When Fox News asked Schumer if he was meeting with Washington’s Mamdani on Wednesday, he said, “I’ll talk to him last night and we’ll meet in New York City.”

And on Monday, Jeffries told reporters: “I’m going to go back to my hometown in Brooklyn and meet up with the Democratic candidate over the weekend.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., Right, Senate minority leaders Chuck Schumer, Dn.Y. joined for a press conference at the Statue Hall held at the Capitol on February 12, 2025.

Last month, New York Democrats congratulated Mamdani on securing the Democratic nomination and confirmed that they were in talks with the young socialist who would become New York City’s first Muslim mayor if elected this November.

Dn.Y. MP Adriano Espaillat approved Mamdani last week after retreating former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo announced his decision on Monday to remain in the mayoral race as an independent.

“We’re past the primary and people in New York City are talking,” Epsairat said Thursday. “In terms of supporting someone, if there is a common denominator for every decision I have made since I started representing this district, that’s called Democrats.”

When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez agreed that Democrats were “strong when we unite.”

“Zohran Mamdani is the Democratic candidate for New York City Mayor and as a Democrat, I’m gathering behind the candidates,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Rep. Tom Suozzi, Dn.Y., said he would not attend Ocasio-Cortez’s breakfast on Wednesday. Suozzi appeared as the voice enemy of Mamdani’s campaign among New York Democrats.

Rep. Moskowitz, D-Fla. confirmed that he will be attending breakfast on Wednesday. Moskowitz admits that there is “a huge disagreement” with Mamdani about the policy, but said he wants to learn about running a successful digital campaign.

Meanwhile, returning to the White House, Fox News’ Peter Doucy asked if President Donald Trump had been invited to breakfast.

“I want to be,” Trump said. “I really want to go, meaning I’m looking forward to seeing both.”

But Trump added, “Look, he’s a communist. I don’t think our country is ready for communists, but we’re going to see it. And I don’t think race is over yet.”

Trump added that he thinks Cuomo should stay in the race because “he has a shot.”

President Donald Trump will arrive on the Southern Lawn of the White House from Camp David on June 9, 2025.

“He’s running against the Communists. You’d think he has a good shot of victory,” Trump explained.

The Mamdani campaign quickly seized Trump’s comments on Tuesday.

“I want to congratulate Andrew Cuomo on his support of Donald Trump. Clearly, this victory speaks for itself. The question now is whether Cuomo is openly accepting Trump’s support, or will he accept it privately, or will he continue to accept it in a private manner?”

Republicans have not been more keen on trying to pin down the mum ticks to Democrats across the country running competitive race in elections this year and in the middle of next year.

Earlier this week, when asked if Mamdani was giving GOP extra ammunition in the messaging fight, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Wayley said “absolutely.”

“I mean, this is the face of the new Democrat,” Whatley indicted in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

“Anyone who wants to lead that party wants to take it to the left. They’re now away from the American people with a pretty fast clip.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee, which aims to protect a thin majority of GOP razors in the House of Representatives in the middle of next year, has repeatedly tied Democrats to the Mamdani.

“Radical Socialist Zoran Mamdani is not just the future of the Democrats, but the party of the Democrats. The campaign trajectory ensures that House Democrats share his left-wing agenda.

Kelly Phares, Tyler Olson, Dan Scully, Ryan Schmelz, Sandy Ibrahim and Peter Doocy of Fox News contributed to this report.
