Greek authorities arrested Professor Berkeley, California’s ex-wife earlier this month in connection with the murder in Athens.
Marketing professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski was fatally shot in Athens’ Agia Paraskevi district on July 4, authorities told Vima to Greek Media Autolet.
Jeziorsky, 43, was shot five times while walking to his ex-wife’s house to see the child. Authorities arrested his ex-wife and three additional suspects in connection with the shooting, police told the news outlet. The San Francisco Chronicle and the Greek news outlet have identified its ex-wife as Michelida Chinadia.
According to UC Berkeley, the incumbent professor was born in Poland after teaching economics at the Berkeley Haas School for 13 years.
Greek police announced their arrests on Wednesday. The unidentified suspects were allegedly two Albanian and a Bulgarian man. Authorities said the suspect drove another man, a fellow Eziorsky’s ex-wife, to the neighborhood and provided an automatic handgun to his companion.
The suspect shot Zeziorsky five times and he died at the scene, police said. His ex-wife is a Greek citizen and the two were in the midst of a difficult custody dispute over their children, Helenic police told the news outlet.
According to UC Berkeley, Jeziorski was an expert in quantitative marketing, industrial organizations and economics in digital markets.
“This is a huge loss for this field and for Haas, as Przemek is one of the knowledgeable experts in empirical analysis in global marketing,” Professor Miguel Villas-Boas said in a statement. “He was generous in his time, very caring for the Haas community, courageous to tackle important issues, full of grace and kindness, and a beloved father.”
He was survived by his mother, a brother and two children.
