Mayor Eric Adams is sued by former high-ranking New York Police Department officials because he allegedly runs a “criminal conspiracy” in the department to enrich former senior officials.
A spokesman for Adams, who is running for reelection as an independent, is called “an unfounded accusation from a disgruntled former employee.”
Politico reported that former NYPD commissioner Tom Donlon filed a lawsuit in Manhattan’s New York Supreme Court against Adams, the Department and other current and former city officials on Wednesday.
In his lawsuit, Donlon alleged that “a coordinated criminal conspiracy took root at the highest level of the city government — through wire fraud, mail fraud, honest service fraud, obstruction of justice and retaliation against whistleblowers.”
According to the outlet, the Donlon allegations against New York City officials amount to assault.

“This company – the NYPD was a criminal at its heart,” Donlon said.
Politico also reported in a statement accompanied by Donlon, “This lawsuit is not a personal grievance. It is a statement against a corrupt system that betrays the public, silences the truth and punishes integrity.”
“The goal is to promote real change, restore the voices of all honorable officers who have corrupted, deceived, abusively powerful accountability, and who have silenced or denied justice,” Donlon writes.

In response, Adams spokesman Kayla Mamerak Altas told Fox News Digital that “these are unfounded accusations from disgruntled former employees who have proven themselves effective when given the opportunity to lead a great police department in the world.
“The lawsuit is merely an attempt to seek compensation at taxpayer’s expense after Mr Donlon was justly removed from his role as interim police chief,” Mamerak Altas argued.
A spokesperson said Adams’ office “said it will respond in court and I am confident that these absurd claims will be disproved.”

“The NYPD is led by the best, brightest and most honorable experts in the country. Their results speak for themselves. Crime continues to fall across the city with the lowest level of shooting in recorded history,” Mamelak Altus said.
