Bradley Beal is the newest All-Star on his way out of Phoenix.
The former Suns Guard reportedly plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers after agreeing to the deal’s acquisition and clearing the exemption.
Some teams reportedly had an interest in beer outside the Clippers, including the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Eventually, he settled on a reported two-year, $11 million contract.
Beale remained on a contract with the Sons for two years, and he originally signed the Wizard of Washington. The transaction also includes non-trade clauses, making it extremely difficult for the Suns to offload.
After a disappointing second season in Phoenix, splitting with the Sun was inevitable for Beale. Pairing with Beale and Devin Booker and Kevin Durant (who traded with the Houston Rockets last month), the Suns had high hopes of entering 2023. That season ended with a sweeping in the first round, and last season got worse, missing out on a play-in tournament together.
The 32-year-old Beal has returned in recent years after creating three All-Star teams in Washington. The St. Louis native averaged 17 points per game (his lowest since 2014-15) and came off the bench in 15 games (he was the most since 2015-16). Fit ultimately didn’t work out in Phoenix.
Currently, Beal joins the Clippers team, where expectations for veteran security guards are low. Ty Lue’s Squad won 50 games last season, following Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. But with the team trading Norman Powell, there is clearly a need for more scoring. The Clippers will add John Collins and Brook Lopez to strengthen the front line, and Beer should improve the backcourt.
