Police said he was orphaned Thursday after his father killed his mother, driving hundreds of miles north to Stockton, where he shot another man.
According to a department’s social media post, officers from the Garden Grove Police Station responded to the Morgan Lane home around 8:05am on Thursday. Authorities called police and said officers and ambulances were needed by the families in the house.
When officers arrived at the scene, they received another call from a girl inside the house and said her mother needed help, police said. Officers discovered the body of 37-year-old Crystal Gonzalez inside. The second child, the girl’s siblings, were inside, both unharmed and had no idea what happened to her mother, police said.
It was not immediately clear how and when Gonzalez was killed.
As the investigation was underway, police said the family reported that a vehicle belonging to Gonzalez’s husband, Miguel Lopez, 35, had been found in Stockton, more than 300 miles north of San Joaquin County.
Police learned from Stockton Police Station that Lopez was involved in a shooting in the city around the time he was called to check out the Garden Grove family that morning.
Stockton Police Department officials responded to a report of a shooting on an eight-mile road west at about 8am Thursday and found two men shot dead.
Lopez appeared to shoot a 54-year-old man, seriously injured him, and then shot himself, police said. Lopez was declared dead at the scene.
The detective is still working on the investigation and asked anyone with detailed information to contact the Garden Globe Police at (714) 741-5413. Officers also work to reunite their children with their families.
