The company, which linked the two people who saw the canoeing at a Cold Play concert in Massachusetts, said it has begun investigating the incident after people online speculated that the man in the video was the company’s CEO.
On Wednesday, when “Kisscam” exhibited the couple attending Gillette Stadium, a blonde woman and a silver-haired man were among those projected onto the screen. As soon as the pair realized they were being seen, the woman covered her face and the man fell out of the frame.
The nasty moments have taken the internet by storm, with video clips garnering millions of views on platforms like X, Tiktok and Instagram. Internet sloots quickly speculated that the couple was tied to astronomers, a tech company based in New York.
At the concert, the band’s lead singer Chris Martin appeared to be enjoying the couple while he was on stage.
“Yeah, look at these two. You’re fine,” he said, according to video footage from the concert circulating online. “You’re fine. Ah, what?
In a post on Friday in X, astronomers issued a statement dealing with the present moment.
“Astronomers are committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the statement reads. “Our leaders are expected to set standards in both conduct and accountability.”
The company’s board of directors “has launched a formal investigation into the issue and has additional details to share immediately,” the company said.
Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has been identified by online users as being featured in the video, but NBC News has not independently confirmed that he is an individual in the footage. NBC News does not identify women in the video.
Byron has not yet issued a statement, the company said, adding that “otherwise the reports that it said are wrong.”
Byron did not immediately respond to requests for comment made by NBC News.
