More than 20 people were injured when the vehicle was cared for by a crowd overnight in front of an East Hollywood nightclub, authorities said. The driver was then pulled from the vehicle, beaten and shot.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the first report was that a car crashing with the crowd had collided in the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard around 2am Saturday. The popular Vermont Hollywood venue is located within the block.
More than 120 Los Angeles Fire Department first responders rushed to the scene and took 28 people to a nearby hospital, with LAFD captain Adam Vangelpen checking with KTLA on Saturday morning. Of these patients, seven were said to be in serious condition, six were in serious condition, and the remaining 10 were in fair condition.

Video footage taken shortly after the crash showed the first responder treating the victim at the scene for his own wounds. Some individuals were loaded into ambulances, others were bandaged and given other forms of treatment on the street.
Further cell phone footage obtained by KTLA shows people pulling drivers out of the vehicle and starting to punch and kick him repeatedly.
The hatchback involved in the collision caused serious damage, but was now resting on the sidewalk in front of what appeared to be the entrance to the club.

Investigators said they believe the driver lost consciousness and hit the podium of the taco stands and valets before colliding with the crowd. According to the initial report, the driver may have been shot just before the incident and lost control of the vehicle. It was later discovered that the driver was shot in the aftermath of the crash, not before the crash.
His condition at 7am on Saturday was unknown. There was no word on what led him to lose control. The shooting was investigated as a separate incident and no arrests were made immediately in connection with it.
In the silver lining, Captain Vangelpen pointed out that it was helping citizens members support authorities with immediate response to the incident.
“This was a really scary scene, because all these people came out to have a good time,” Vangelpen told KTLA 5’s Carlos Herrera. “It was a chaotic scene as they wait in line and then the car comes and goes through them, but we also saw people showing their best… People with broken legs were being helped by people they’ve never met before.”
The Los Angeles Police Department is handling investigations into the crash and shooting.
This is a developing story. I will stay at KTLA for updates.
