The driver crashed into a crowd outside a popular East Hollywood nightclub early Saturday, causing seven people to be critically injured 30 before being shot and pulled out of the vehicle.
The grey Nissan Versa hit the taco stand and valet stand, like threw people waiting outside the club into the air. Video then shows the driver being dragged from the vehicle, police said.
Los Angeles police said the driver ran into the crowd “for reasons that are still under investigation.”
Los Angeles police said the driver was shot at one point and beaten by the crowd. He was taken to the hospital with 23 club participants. The driver status is unknown.
“When officers arrived, they discovered that the driver had been attacked by a bystander and determined he had a gunshot wound,” police said. “The suspect who shot the driver escaped Sheen on foot and finally saw him heading west from Vermont Avenue.”
The suspicious gunman was described by police as a Latino man, 5’9″, 180 pounds, wearing a blue jersey and possibly armed with a silver revolver.
Approximately 124 firefighters and paramedics responded to a chaotic scene around 2am in the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard outside the popular Vermont Club. It is still under investigation to see why the driver was held by the crowd, but whether they were unconscious is being investigated.
“This is a tragic tragedy. We would like to thank the more than 100 LAFD and LAPD officials who responded to the scene to save lives,” Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement.
This is a developing story.
