Democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani announced repeated extended trips to Africa on Sunday during his campaign to lead America’s biggest city.
Mamdani, who secured the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor and defeated Andrew Cuomo over 12 percent points last month, has released a video hoping for criticism of his trip to Uganda.
In a rebellious yet playful tone, Mamdani called what he said in X that “thousands of” messages said “returning to Uganda where you belong to” and “returning to Africa.”
“Being a politician means listening not only to your supporters, but your critics,” Mamdani said. “And some of these critics have given me consistent advice, especially on certain websites.”
“I hear you and I agree. I’m going back to Uganda,” Mamdani said.
If Mamdani wins the NYC mayoral bid, Cuomo will “move to Florida.”

The mayor’s hoped to say he would head to Uganda “in his personal abilities” to celebrate his marriage with his wife Rama and family and friends.
“I’m coming back and I want to apologise to those I don’t like,” he said. Mamdani added in the accompanying X post that she will be back “by the end of the month.”
Mamdani, who attempted to assert control over the story, provided an imaginary headline denounced his overseas trip.
“And you’ll definitely read about this trip in the New York Post, Inshara [Arabic for God willing]on the front page, here are some of my humble suggestions for headlines,” Mamdani is jabing in a New York-based newspaper.
He proposed tabloid headlines that mentioned the largest cities in the Uganda capital, such as “Mia? Mandani Africa,” “Ugandami Miss Mee,” and “He is Kampala, Kampala, Crazy.”
Mamdani also suggested the headline “He’s Africa – Not Serious!” “Karl Kampalanil investigates Mamdani” – a satirical view of the name of Carl Bernstein, an American investigative journalist who discovered the Watergate scandal.
“ZoRunning Away?” Mamdani said the video was offering an imaginary headline at the end before herself and another campaign supporter waved to the camera and faded to “ZoRan for the Mayor.”

Trump says Cuomo has a “good shot” in which he defeated Mamdani in the New York mayoral election
Mamdani holds dual US and Ugandan citizenship. He was born in Uganda and grew up in South Africa until he moved to New York City at the age of seven.
He owns four acres of undeveloped land in Jinja, Uganda, which is worth between $150,000 and $250,000.
Nevertheless, resurfaced social media videos show that past mum danies have come to the Communist principle, “abolition of private property.”
His mother is a highly regarded Indian-American filmmaker. She reportedly owned a New York City loft worth around $100,000 before she recently sold the property.
His father is a professor at Columbia University and is on the advisory board of anti-Israel organizations. The organization supports boycotts and sanctions in Israel, routinely accusing the Israeli government of committing “genocide” and expresses sympathy for suicide bombings.
Mamdani’s candidacy sparked concerns from the Jewish community. He refused to condemn the term “globalization of intifadas.” Meanwhile, New York City college campuses, including Columbia University, face anti-Semitism and anti-Israel protests and camps following the attacks by Israeli Hamasterolists on October 7, 2023.

Mamdani herself defended the BDS, or boycotts, sales and sanctions, saying that at City Hall in May the anti-Israel movement is “the core of my politics: non-violence.”
Mamdani critics also criticized how he campaigned for socialist ideals, including government-run grocery stores and rent freezes despite his wealthy upbringing.
Mamdani, who won the Democratic mayoral primary, has emerged as a front runner, and he is supported by progressive things in Congress.
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) have become more cautious about Mamdani.

While it is extremely rare to lose the November general election in the Democratic mayoral primary, Mamdani is still facing Cuomo, who officially declared his independent mayoral bid last week. Incumbent mayor Eric Adams, like former federal prosecutor Jim Walden, runs an independent. The Guardian Angels founder Curtis Swa is a Republican mayoral candidate.
