The subway train was suspended Sunday afternoon under the MacArthur Park area, with crews working to launch an electric fire in one of the metropolitan tunnels, officials confirmed.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department reported the fire at 1:32pm, sending crews to the metro tunnel between 7th Avenue/Metro Center Station and Westlake/MacArthur Park Stations to report a small electrical fire.
The alarm was also activated due to the flames, and LAFD said all “B” (red) and “D” (purple) trains “have been safely stopped at a remote station location away from the incident.”
According to LAFD, subway trains and patrons have not been reported as “at risk.”
At 2:15pm, authorities said crews could safely access, lock up and completely disappear the small flames. Lafd said the fire includes garbage and a “third rail” system. This is usually energised with high voltage electricity to support the movement of the train.”
The fire burned remotely in the tunnel, but the train still stopped while LAFD worked to complete operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
