NBC4 is investigating Sunday’s investigation into a man suspected of driving to a crowd of people outside the East Hollywood Club who was previously convicted of felony battery.

LAPD captain Ben Fernandez confirmed to NBC4 that 29-year-old Fernandora Mirez was sentenced in 2020 for attacking a man outside Laguna Beach Whole Foods in June 2019.

San Clemente residents have at least 11 criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to felony.

The Orange County DA office also confirms Ramirez’s extensive criminal history dating back to 2014. This includes felony charges for a fatal weapon attack using forces that could cause greater bodily injury on the same charges that are facing Saturday’s crash fall.

Ramirez’s latest claim was in January 2022, when he was charged with a felony household battery and entered a plea of innocence. The case remains open.

Ramirez also has a pending DUI incident, according to the Orange County DA office.

At least 37 people in serious condition have been injured after Ramirez was said to have plowed into a crowd outside an East Hollywood nightclub early Saturday morning, which was thought to be a deliberate act.

The incident was reported around 2am near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department said. According to Los Angeles Fire Department Colonel Adam Vangelpen, the drivers hit a hood vending cart and a bunch of people outside the club.

Sergeant. LAPD Central Traffic Division Watch Commander Travis Ward said the driver was pulled out of the vehicle and was shot and shot after the collision. He was then taken to the hospital and was taken for surgery, where he was said to be in stable condition. Because of this, he said LAPD could not determine whether the driver was drunk.

According to LAPD Commander Lillian Carranza, the crash appeared to have been intentional.

Two LAPD sources told NBC4 that the driver was fighting at the club and was kicked out of the venue. He returned to the club and began fighting again. According to law enforcement, he was dumped by security for being drunk and destructive. Sources say the man drove into his car into the crowd.

Ramirez was beaten and pulled out of the wreck before shooting on the sidelines, police say. He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon that is likely to cause greater bodily injury, LAPD said.

At least 30 people were injured in the collision and in multiple serious conditions. Tracey Leong is reporting NBC4 News at 11pm on July 19, 2025.

Photos from the scene showed a bashed-up grey vehicle straddled the sidewalk, littered with debris scattered over the floor. At least dozens of firefighters can be seen along with many people sitting on the floor on blankets.

In another photo, the firefighter appears to be helping someone lift off the ground in his car.

The man inside the nightclub told NBC News that he heard a “big loud noise” and that many people attacked him, believing he was hearing gunshots.

“We look outside the club and it’s a car in a hole right there,” he said. “And that’s crazy because everywhere you go, there’s an unconscious person, bleeding, etc.”

Seven people are in serious condition and six people in serious condition, LAFD said in a separate statement, with 10 people being treated for their injuries. Seven other individuals declined help on the scene. 124 firefighters said they had assisted on the scene.

According to Carranza, the victims were called 12 men and 18 women in their 20s and 30s. Sergeant. Ward said there were no certain deaths.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that took place outside our venue early Saturday morning,” Vermont Hollywood said in a statement. “Our thoughts and sincere prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”

Police have not made the name of the driver public, but they said he was in custody when he recovered at the hospital. It is unclear what charges he will face.

Law enforcement is looking for the gunman who shot the driver. He last saw him heading west on Vermont Avenue after firing. Police say he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 180 pounds, and was aged blue jersey.

Anyone with information about the case should contact the Rampart Division of LAPD at 213-484-3424. Anonymous tips can be created by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
