AUSTIN (KXAN) – After the July 4 flood in Kerr County, Texas, the city of Kerr County Flood Disasters Joint Information Center confirmed it remains missing on Saturday.
This comes after the city said in a news release that many people first reported missing were safely verified and removed from the list.
“This was an ongoing effort as investigators worked diligently to verify missing person reports and confirm their status,” the city said.
In a July 16 update, Kerr County officials said at least 107 people have died in Kerr County, including 37 children. In a July 14 update, Gov. Greg Abbott said 97 people are known to be missing in the “Great Carville area.”
Flash floods insisted on the lives of more than 100 people in central Texas. This is what we know about the victims
By Saturday, Kellville officials announced that the number of missing people in Kerr County had dropped by more than three, the release said.
“We are deeply grateful to the more than 1,000 local, state and federal authorities who worked tirelessly in the wake of the devastating floods that hit our community,” Carville City Manager Dalton Rice said in a release. “Their extraordinary efforts have reduced the number of individuals previously listed as missing by more than three, down from 160.”
The city of Carville said it will work with the Texas Department of Public Safety to determine the status of reported individual shortages.
“This process takes time, but it’s essential to ensure that all leads are thoroughly followed and that each person is properly explained,” said Jonathan Lamb, spokesman for the Kerrville Police Department. “We understand how important it is to report this information accurately, not just for the affected families, but for the integrity of the overall emergency response.
“The updated numbers provide some relief, but searchers focus on reunions of family members and three individuals who have not yet been described. State and local officials are taking urgently and caution to find them while supporting affected communities through the ongoing recovery process,” Lamb said.
At least 135 people have been killed in the devastating flash floods in Texas, with the majority confirmed in Kerr County.
Overall, six counties have been confirmed dead, with four still missing in Travis County. Other dead and missing people have been confirmed in Kendall, Burnett, Williamson and Tom Green counties.
Regarding Carville, authorities said recovery operations will continue on Saturday across the Guadalupe River.
“Our idea is that our families are still waiting for the news and we will continue to stand with them as the efforts continue,” said Carville Mayor Joe Herring, Jr. said in the release.
