Police have released photos of a man suspected of shooting a 29-year-old driver who was accused of intentionally driving into a crowd outside an East Hollywood nightclub and injuring dozens of people.
The Saturday morning incident unfolded in the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near a popular venue in the 1000 block of North Vermont Avenue, according to Investigators at the LA Police Department.
More than 120 first responders rushed to the scene of the mass casual incident and took 36 patients to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe fractures, including several victims trapped under the suspect’s vehicle.
Shortly after the incident, the driver, identified by police as Fernando Ramirez, was pulled out of his car by people in the crowd, punched repeatedly and kicked.
“During the altercation, an unidentified man approached from across the street, produced a firearm and shot Ramirez in the waist once,” LA police said in an updated news release. “The suspect will run away from the place and stay throughout.”

Law enforcement sources told KTLA that just before 8pm on Friday, Ramirez was removed from the nightclub for being destructive and later turned away when he tried to re-enter the venue. He then got into the car, drove to Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, where he made a U-turn, drove to the sidewalk, bumped into the taco bender stands, the Bullet podium, and hit a crowd of people.
LAPD CPT. Vangerpen noted that it will help citizen members support authorities in immediate response to the incident.
“This was a really scary scene, because all these people came out to have a good time,” Van Gelpen told KTLA. “It was a chaotic scene as they wait in line and then the car comes and goes through them, but we also saw people showing their best… People with broken legs were being helped by people they’ve never met before.”
Police say the suspected gunman is a Hispanic man standing between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 7 inches, weighing about 160-170 pounds and has ears and goatie gauges.
He finally wore a light blue jersey with a blue Dodgers jacket, a “5” and blue jeans.
