Ford recalls more than 694,000 Broncosports and escape vehicles as fuel injectors can cause cracks and leaks and fires.
Fuel leaks inside the engine compartment and hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.
The recall affects certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape vehicles with a 1.5L engine.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford has been investigating fuel injector issues since 2022. The company’s Field Review Committee approved the recall in November 2022, March 2024 and March 2025, during which software updates were carried out.
Ford continues to investigate this issue. As part of the ongoing process, the automaker considered corrosion as a factor that contributed to cracking in the fuel injector between April and May 2025.
Ford has identified cracked injectors in eight vehicles that experienced the fire that was done. The six vehicles did not have updated engine control software. The automaker is not aware of any fire-related injuries.
Earlier this month, Ford’s Field Review Committee decided to issue a recall of certain vehicles to update the engine control software for free until a final relief is available.
A letter notifying vehicle owners of safety risks is expected to be mailed on August 18th. Once the final remedy is available, a second letter will be sent. Vehicle owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 and refer to recall number 25S76.
