Los Angeles County leaders are scheduled to hold a press conference Monday morning to “sound the alarm” about what they say could lead to a public health crisis as a result of planned parent-child rebates.
The temporary restraining order is set to expire on Monday. This means that Planned Parenthood Health Centers across the country could get a refund immediately.
More than 80% of California patients rely on Medi-Cal, according to Planned Parenthood. Medi-Cal is a state Medicaid program that helps patients access contraception, cancer screening, STI testing and treatment, and more.
“Sadly, we already know where federal rebates for planned parents will lead to. Cancer is undetected, STI crisis is exacerbated, wellness testing and preventive care are significantly reduced, and birth control is more difficult than ever.”
Additionally, people abandon essential health care and instead turn to already overcrowded emergency rooms for what could have been a routine appointment. These are real concerns in Los Angeles where severe health inequality and stubborn gaps in access to reproductive health are persisting. ”
According to the release, Planned Parenthood will be refunded for services offered to patients. And if they get refunded, these health centers will not receive a federal reimbursement for the care provided to patients provided for health insurance using Medicaid.
