Police Chief Jim McDonnell and the Los Angeles Police Department have clarified their strategy to “prevent further incidents and restore the security of Encino residents.”
The bodies of “American Idol” music director Robin Kay and her husband Thomas DeLuka were found on July 14th four days after the theft allegedly shot multiple times inside Encino’s home using the couple’s guns.
“Our minds are directed at families grieving this pointless loss of life. While crime may be statistically reduced, we understand that the fear and pain it causes is deeply personal and very realistic,” McDonnell said in a news release Wednesday.
According to TMZ, it is the music director of “American Idol” and her husband who was found shot and killed in a luxury Encino home on Monday afternoon. The email includes Edwin Aroyabe and his wife, television personality Teddi Mellencamp, following a community meeting Tuesday asking law enforcement for help and two more intrusions reported later that night. The couple best known for their three season stint about “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” was upstairs when the intrusion unfolded, along with their kids.
No injuries were reported in any of the overnight incidents, but a few hours later, LAPD shared a multipoint plan to combat recent invasions.
Improved Patrol Visibility: Watch-3 and Watch-5 Shift officers are instructed to concentrate Encino’s discretionary patrols, especially in the evening and at night. Rapid Community Engagement: Footbeat led by senior leaders including Captain Brand was made shortly after the discovery of double murders to provide information and peace of mind to residents. Robbery Investigation: Detectives are working closely with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Robbery/Broken Task Force and the LAPD’s metropolitan and commercial crime division to target organized robbery crews operating in the area. Air Support and Mounted Patrol: The demand for the increase in airship elevated roads and the deployment of onboard patrols has been approved to improve visibility and deterrence. Capture suspicious vehicle data and utilize ALPR technology in areas deployed to develop research leads. Community Outreach: Plans are underway for a “Coffee With a Cop” event focused on Encino. Social media campaigns, updated robbery prevention tips, and regular engagement with local block captains have strengthened public awareness and engagement.
The news release says the plan is already underway as part of a “all hand-on deck-on” coordination effort led by the West Valley department, LAPD Command staff, robbery detectives, patrol officers and community relations officials.
“We take these concerns seriously and have launched a dedicated crime control strategy,” McDonnell said.
