Following the recent rise in intrusions in the San Fernando Valley community, new security methods are seen sprinting along Encino.
The Los Angeles Police Department is increasing community security with helicopter flyovers, undercover agents and a squad mounted in the neighborhood. The horse-riding officer patrols the area to shake up potential burglars entering the home.
“Everyone who has criminal behavior or criminal mindset is likely to see us based on the various strategies we take here using all the undercover and everything else, just because they don’t see us,” Sgt. LAPD mounted platoon Enrique Rogers.
The patrol will continue throughout the weekend, and he said it will give residents some heart.
Additional security moves come after at least six home invasions have been reported on Encino from July 10th. The first of a series of robberies killed a couple at home.
“American Idol” executive Robin Kay and her husband Thomas DeLuka were both 70 years old and were shot and killed at Encino’s home on July 10th. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said the 22-year-old man was killed after breaking into his home and firing with his own gun.
The couple’s murders followed several more invasions, bringing the community to the edge.
“If we can make someone feel safe at home, then make them safe, on the streets where they work. That’s what we want to do,” Rogers said.
