The late-night crash rocked a quiet Huntington Beach neighborhood on Friday, as speeding cars ran down the road and crashed into three homes.
Police said the car was driving north on Newland Street near Yorktown Avenue around 10:40pm.
Daniel Lingenfelter lives in one of the damaged homes and says she is still in shock. Lingenfelter lives with her grandmother and caretaker, but they were on vacation at the time of crash and she was at work.
According to Lingenfelter, the most damaging home had a mother and two children. She says that the family is unharmed, but they cannot stay in their home as it was yellow tagged.
The driver of the car was a 17-year-old boy with an 18-year-old passenger, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. Both passengers were taken to the hospital.
Police say the driver was traveling at high speeds, but drugs and alcohol were not the cause. The driver was quoted for driving without a license and without reckless driving.
Meanwhile, neighbors continue to worry about their safety, saying this is not the first crash they’ve seen on Newland Street.
“It terrified us. It’s a scary idea because I had the same situation the past few years ago. We fell asleep in the middle of the night, woke up to a loud noise, and both cars were combined in one small car,” Lingenfelter said.
