The couple took the military explosive device to the Los Angeles Police Station on Saturday afternoon and attempted to dispose of it, causing officials to temporarily evacuate Pacoima Station and nearby homes.
The incident occurred less than two weeks after the explosion killed three Los Angeles County Sheriff detectives. This is the most fatal incident for the sheriff’s department in over 150 years. Three agency veterans died in the incident: dets. Joshua Kelly Ecklund, Victor Rems and William Osborne.
According to LAPD, the two came to Pacoima station on Saturday at 2:30pm and said they were cleaning the home of a family member who recently died when they found something they believed was an explosive.
The department’s bomb squad used the robot to capture images of the plastic boxes brought by the couple.
After deeming them to be safely handed over, the bomb squad moved them to storage facilities for US troops to collect.
One of the rena bullets discovered before the explosion was missing in the latest twist in the case of a sheriff’s detective being killed said Friday.
Two hand-rena bullets were found in a home in a town in Santa Monica. One of them exploded with fatal consequences, while the other “is not explained at this time,” Sheriff Robertolna said.
