The city of Los Angeles and Taggers may be fighting across territory when it comes to the Second Street tunnel in downtown Los Angeles.
The iconic tunnel between Figueroa and Hill Streets is known for its colorful, freestyle graffiti on the wall, but whether or not the graffiti appears to be a form of art, the person tagging the wall may be breaking the law by destroying public property.
Last week, the city’s public works department was painted on a graphically covered wall. However, it didn’t take long until the white canvas put the tagger back into the tunnel and left the mark overnight.
“Until 24 hours after the city crew painted the iconic Second Street tunnel in downtown Los Angeles, they painted sterile white. The waves of Graffiti Vandal regained the concrete stretch, famous for their stunning visuals, and shared a video with NBC Los Angeles. “In the bright light, dozens of artists across the city descended on newly painted walls.
The 1,500-foot tunnel, completed in the 1920s, was built to ease traffic in the area. This place is deeply immersed in popular culture as it was the background to many famous films such as The Terminator, Blade Runner, and Lethal Weapon 2.
NBC Los Angeles contacted the city of LA to see if they were planning to clean the wall again soon.
