The Department of Homeland Security is beating Sen. Chris Van Hollen and other Democrats on Monday for attempting to “squeeze” headlines by requesting a sit-in at an ice facility in Baltimore.

Van Hollen has made much of the headlines for his outspoken support for suspected MS-13 gang member Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who is a member of the MS-13 gang.

Van Hollen and several other House and Senate Democrats in Maryland appeared in Baltimore, the Fallon Federal Building on Monday, but were denied access to the building’s ice detention facility. The group of lawmakers also included four members of Senator Angela of Brooks and the Maryland House delegation.

In a video shot by the Baltimore Sun, you can hear MFUME telling federal employees that “frankly, I hope they will be allowed to enter.”

After being denied access to the facility, the group held a press conference outside the building, and MFUME said, “We had to stand outside, knock on the door and finally sit in front of the door.”

After the incident, Olszewski told his X, “My Maryland colleague and I were denied entry to the Baltimore Ice Detention Center in accordance with all legal requirements.”

He argued that “Congress has a legal right to inspect ice facilities,” adding that “this refusal is surprising in reporting the inhumane situation.”

In response, the DHS issued a statement saying, “Congressman, if you need to take a photo with a violent, criminally illegal alien you protect, we will exchange tours.”

The agency said the request to visit the detention facility should be made “in sufficient time to prevent the President’s Article II powers from overseeing the functions of the administrative department.”

The statement said the week was “sufficient to ensure that the president would intrude against constitutional authorities,” and “requests to reduce that time must be approved,” said Secretary Kristi Noem.

The agency issued another statement asking “how much advertising can a sanctuary politician squeeze out of alleged terrorist and traffickers?”

The statement explained that visits to the facility must be approved by the secretary due to “a spike in attacks, confusion and obstruction of enforcement, including politicians themselves.”

On her side, Noem posted photos of several illegal immigrant criminals in Maryland. She allegedly had been charged with violent crimes, including rape, possession of child pornography, sexual abuse of a minor and conspiracy to commit murder.

“These are the monsters @chrisvanhollen protecting American victims,” Noem said.

In response, Van Hollen’s office directed Fox News digitally, saying on social media, “Noem is lying about as much as his boss.”

Van Hollen supports ice, which targets “the worst, worst, worst,” but argued that “ice data shows that 72% of people who carry ice have no criminal history, and 84% are not threatening.”

He also said that the delegation requested a visit, but added, “But we didn’t need to do — they require us to be monitored by law.”

“This is BS, simple and simple,” Van Hollen said.

According to a DHS statement last week, 70% of U.S. ice arrests are illegal foreigners convicted or charged with a crime. This is because agencies face intense criticism of immigration law enforcement, with executives dealing with an increase in assaults of 830%.

Olszewski’s office also directed the digital to a statement made on X to Fox News Digital, saying the delegation “is not looking for a ‘tour’ or asking for permission to do our job.”

“This is an oversight. Congress has legal authority to enter ice facilities with or without notice. But to be clear: we have given you a weekly notice that you claim you need. Why move the goal post? What are you hiding?

Ivey’s Office shared a letter with Fox News Digital dated July 21, with the delegation informing Noem and acting ice director Todd Lyons of its intention to visit the Baltimore facility. The letter does not seem to require it. James Kommer, R-KY, chair of the House Committee on Surveillance and Government Reform. and ranking member Robert Garcia (D-Calif) was also included in the letter.

The lawmakers also shared a letter he and Elleth sent to Noem on July 23rd. They called for the immediate release of Honduras immigrant and pastor Daniel Fuentes Espinal.

Ivey told Fox News Digital that Noem said he hadn’t explained whether the kids were arrested at a baseball camp in New York, going to JV volleyball practice in Massachusetts, or whether Christian pastors on the East Coast of Maryland are being swept over the ice.

Fox News Digital not only contacted the offices of Elfreth and Mfume, but the senators also contacted Senator Brooks’s offices for comments, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
