Officials attempted several pit operations that failed to stop the driver’s wishes on alleged elder abuse in a stolen pickup chase that became an unusual end in Santa Monica on Tuesday.
LAPD told NBCLA that the elder abuse report stemmed from an altercation involving the driver and his father on Monday. The two attacked their father in battle and stole the pickup, police said.
The White GMC pickup was located on 10 highways, the Pacific Coast Highway and on the streets near the coastal community. SUVS officials tried to send the pickup to the spin at least three times, but the driver of the expanded taxi truck continued with only minor damage on the rear end.
The truck reached nearly 100 mph on the eastbound highway and sailed in light traffic before leaving the Pico district.
The pursuit returns to Santa Monica, where officers attempted another failed pit operation. The driver continued, making a sudden U-turn at a busy intersection.
The chase ended a strange end as the driver stopped, temporarily exited the pickup, ran through, drove for a short distance and stopped again. The driver then left the pickup again and instead of raising his hand and falling to the ground, he walked towards the officers.
He worked on the ground and was arrested.
The pursuit began in West Los Angeles after reports of the stolen vehicle.
