Kamala Harris has decided not to run for governor of California – NBC Los Angeles

Kamala Harris’ former vice president will not run for California governor, she announced Wednesday, ending months of speculation after her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

“In recent months, I have seriously considered asking the people of California to have their privilege as governor,” Harris said in a prepared statement. “I love this state, its people, and its promises. It’s my home. But after deep reflection, I have decided not to run for governor in this election.”

“At this point, my leadership and public services are not in the elected office,” she continued. “I look forward to going back and listening to the American people, electing Democrats from across the country who are fearlessly fighting, and sharing details about my plans for the next few months.”

Harris, who failed to deal with his 2028 presidential candidacy, said, “In the United States, people have to lie to people. And we must use our power to fight for freedom, opportunity, equity and all dignity. I will remain in that battle.”

Harris first served as state attorney general and then as a US Senate for four years, ten years, and ten years, before resigning from his vice president after Joe Biden won the 2020 election. She then replaced Biden as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2024 after he dropped out of the race.

A close person to Harris, who spoke on Wednesday, said that while Harris is looking forward to talking to Californians and people around the country about the moment, it was as a civilian. They insisted that if Harris ran for governor, he had a path to victory.

“She’s going to make other announcements, so they’re not around 2028, so stay tuned,” the person said.

“She still wants to be involved in national conversations and talk about Donald Trump, and being involved in discussions and forums in California doesn’t allow her to do that,” the person added.

With Harris’ decision, the race continues to become California’s next governor. Gavin Newsom, a Democratic government who came out through San Francisco politics along with Harris, cannot run for reelection due to time limits.

Many Democrats jumped into the race to make Newsom successful, including Gov Gov Eleni Kounalakis. Former Health and Welfare Secretary and Attorney General Xavier Beterra. Katie Porter, a former lawmaker. Former Senate President Toni Atkins and former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigoza.

The party is expected to hold the governor of the severe Democratic state where Harris scored 20 points in his last presidential election.
