As animal shelters across the country tackle the capacity crisis with an overwhelming number of animal intakes, “The Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson volunteered at animal shelters on Thursday to promote pet adoption and support animal shelters across the country.
Growing up with dogs and cats for the rest of their lives, Hutcherson teamed up with the NBC Universal Local Shelter Campaign and was comfortable with Pasadena Human shelter pets.
“We’re working together to attract more people in August to find a great home for these animals,” he said.
Hutcherson is a dog dad who is proud of two rescue pit bulls, 13-year-old Manji and 9-year-old driver.
“They’re the best,” Hutcherson said. “I think a lot of people can be blocked by bigger dog breeds and even more pit bulls in general, but they are the sweetest dogs in the world.”
Despite starring in the blockbuster film, Hutcherson said he likes to leave social media and avoid public attention. However, he was close to his heart as he shed light on the miserable needs of animal shelters, so he decided to join the campaign.
“I’m cautious about what I want to connect with myself,” Hutchison explained. “But when this opportunity came to my partner on such a great initiative, hang out with my dogs, talk about dogs and cats and try to find their home, I was fine. That’s something I’m happy to be part of.”
I was hanging out with my dog and cat – he did. At Thursday’s volunteer event, Hutcherson met two kitten brothers, Jay and Mitch.
“When you’re holding a cat and it’s turning, it gives you such a ‘nap’ (feeling)'”
