Exclusive: Three Senate Republicans support the Director of Health and Human Services for the potential efforts of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to reform the US preventive services task force, and the group has recently been ideologically motivated.
The “Independence” task force is used to determine recommendations for services that US health insurance companies must cover for free, such as cancer checks.
“Americans deserve to know that health guidelines are based on real science rather than radical will. The task force needs to return to its mission of giving people reliable, clear, evidence-based recommendations.”
I am a doctor and I am worried that our health agencies are facing an increase in chaos.
Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will speak at a press conference on the CDC’s Autism Report at the Hubert Humphrey Building Auditorium in Washington on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Kennedy is considering removing board members, and the senator says it is retreating the change to move away from the specific DEI tactics the group is currently employed.
“In particular, the USPSTF has stepped away from proper activities in the Health Equity Framework in December 2023. The framework criticizes “equal access to quality health care for all” as an inadequate public health goal, and announces that the task force will instead use the “important public health” stock as the “standard for the “important public health” of the topic.”
“Far from merely recognizing health disparities between specific groups, as explained in the USPSTF, “health equity” includes information on risk factors that intersect with race, ethnicity or other disadvantaged groups (such as sexual and gender minorities), which affects the prevalence and burden of illness, and “impact inequality in preventive services provided, or in the accepted services. These standards allow the task force to issue recommendations outside the appropriate scope and impose left-wing ideology.”
Sen. Rand Paul: Kennedy once again stands up against a “corrupted” health agency to make America healthy
Sen. Elect Jim Banks, a Republican of Indiana, welcomes Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, a newly elected Republican senator at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on November 12, 2024.
Specifically, they said changes could be needed to meet President Donald Trump’s executive order to abolish efforts within the federal government, along with the EO on “recovering merit-based opportunities” and “end of illegal discrimination.”
“Ensuring the task force can pursue the Health Equity Framework means allowing them to go beyond the statutory mission and target social groups that connect with progressive agendas. That means discounting universally beneficial recommendations as insufficient. The USPSTF should be working equally for all Americans,” the letter added.
“There has been no final decision on how the USPSTF can better support HHS’ mission to make America healthy again,” a HHS spokesman told Fox News Digital in a statement when asked about the WSJ report.

“The USPSTF plays an important and nonpartisan role in guiding physicians’ efforts to prevent illness and improve patient health by ensuring access to evidence-based clinical prevention services,” the AMA wrote in a letter to Kennedy. “So we encourage you to retain previously appointed USPSTF members and commit to the long-standing process of regular meetings so that their important work can continue uninterrupted.”
