Exclusive: The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announces on Friday it will reverse an exception from the Biden era that allows veterans who cited as likely to violate the current medical benefits package as stipulated in the law to provide abortion services.
In a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, the VA said it would return the benefits of the medical package and “Champva” at the time ahead of the September 2022 agency regulations that removed long-standing abortion restrictions.
The 1999 medical benefit package, as set out in the 1992 Act outline, does not approve abortion services as it is not deemed “necessary” under the law.
“There is no doubt that the VA has the authority to prohibit the VA medical benefit package from the provision of abortion services through veterans,” reads the memo, former VA leadership, Roev. He added that he coordinated in favour of providing abortion in response to the Supreme Court’s DOBBS decision that effectively overturned Wade.

“Ahead of the 2022 Biden administration’s political motivation change, federal law and longstanding precedents via Democrats and Republican administrations have prevented the VA from offering abortion and abortion counseling,” a VA spokesperson discussed policy reversals with Fox News Digital.

“The VA’s proposed rules will revive pre-Biden bipartisan policies and revert to sectors that are in line with historical norms.”
The VA memo added that the DOBBS decision was intended to prevent federal overreach and return control of abortion policy to the state, and that the current Doug Collins pre-employment agency did the exact opposite of what the 2022 policy change was intended to do in that regard.

“Through nearly 50 years and numerous federal programs, including Medicaid, the Child Health Insurance Program, Tricare and the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, Congress has consistently led to a bright line between choice ability abortion and taxpayer-supported health care services.”
The agency also emphasized that reversals of its policy would not prevent pregnant women facing life-threatening circumstances from receiving care in such cases.
